It all began in 1990 with the founding of SAI Actuarial Services (SAI), an actuarial consulting firm that provides expertise to unions, professional associations, and public sector organizations in the management of pension plans and group benefits programs. Today, SAI serves clients from its offices in Montréal, Québec City, and Ottawa.

A solution built with unions, for unions

Through years of working alongside unions and supporting them case after case, SAI gained a deep understanding of their unique realities, the challenges they face every day, and the shortcomings of the generic tools available to support their work.

This close relationship led to a simple realization: unions deserve technology built to make their work easier. SAI therefore set out to build its own platform, designed specifically to support their unique needs.

Out of this close connection, Sentinel was born 

This is how Sentinel, now NioFlo, was designed and developed in collaboration with several union organizations to directly address the needs of the field.

Launched in 2017, the platform is now used by more than 450 unions representing over 370,000 members across North America.

Hosted in Canada, NioFlo brings together the information and tools essential to union operations in a secure environment, including member management, communications, collective agreements, finances, calendars, committees, and much more. Its mission is simple : make the work of union teams easier while giving them greater control over their data.

An approach that evolves with the union movement

Since its launch, Sentinel has continued to evolve based on feedback and needs expressed by the unions that use it. This ongoing collaboration allows us to enhance the platform and introduce new features that address the realities of union organizations. Over the years, new modules have been added, along with a Member Portal that gives members easy access to information from any device.

Today, as Sentinel becomes NioFlo, that vision remains unchanged. While the name is evolving, our commitment remains the same: to provide unions with solutions designed for their reality and to continue supporting them as they grow and evolve.
